I want an iMac. Seriously.

iMac G5 PictureCan anyone tell me why this is something I shouldn’t get? Selling the PowerBook will be a necessary step, but eventually I’d like to supplement the iMac with a 12″ iBook for presos and such. Here’s the specs:

2.0GHz 20-inch iMac

  • 2.0GHz G5 processor
  • 512MB DDR3200 RAM
  • ATI Radeon 9600 w/ 128MB RAM, AGP 8x
  • 250GB SATA drive
  • 8x dual-layer DVD-/+R
  • 20-inch display (1680×1050)
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • AirPort Extreme
  • Digital audio output
  • (cause it’s cool): Ambient light sensor that lowers the intensity of the pulsating sleep light when it’s dark)

I would also add the Bluetooth keyboard/mouse for $53.

My cost? $1,753. How nuts is that?

Note: all “because it’s an iMac” responders should keep in mind that I don’t need what a Power Mac G5 or new PowerBook have over the iMac. The DVI power on my PowerBook? Coverted to VGA every time. PC Card slot? Never used it. FireWire 800? Never used it. Portability? After talking to Josh, I’d like to try having more purposeful time away from a computer, instead of lugging it “just in case”.

I would get the 17″ 1.8Ghz and another 17″ LCD to sit next to it. The 1.8 is hella fast compared to my old iBook, the HD is 4 times larger (and probably 10x faster!), and with 1GB of ram in there, I can have open my usual motley crew of apps.
