This past weekend was one full of away-from-Purdue time. Saturday afternoon I left West Lafayette for Fort Wayne to attend my friend Heather’s wedding reception (married last december in NYC; this reception was for us unable to make it out there). Somehow Yahoo! Maps told me to take 25 to 35, and I ended up north of Knox, Indiana. When I saw the distance sign saying, “Fort Wayne - 81m”, I almost lost it. I made it to the hotel in time for the dinner (including a discussion with a police officer about how rapidly I was trying to get to said reception). Luckily the open bar stayed that way through dinner. After the reception Rosemary and her date left for Muncie and I went back to my great-uncle’s to crash for the night. Breakfast the next morning was nice — we ate at Bob Evans, and I was by far the youngest customer during the 9am Sunday breakfast rush. (All the hottie waitresses were nice, though). Also nice was talking to someone whose pace of life is so much slower. To quote Eric, my to-do list is “like an NYSE ticker”; my great uncle, on the other hand, could talk for hours about his day, which on typical Sunday only contains getting up, church, lunch, dinner, then sleep again.
After breakfast I headed to Michelle’s lake house north of Walkerton for her birthday. The boating and shish-ka-bobs were awesome, and before I knew it I was driving back to West Lafayette. Man, talk about a calming ride. Indiana 8 between 421 and 35 is the most serene, tranquil road I’ve ever seen. Trees towering over, the sunset peeking through the leaves, and not another car for 5 miles in either direction.
For those of you in town over the summer, every Wednesday a group of us (about 8-10) meet at BW3’s on the Levy and play live trivia with DJ Phil. There’s 50ยข wings and of course aan opportunity to show off your trivia skillz. If you plan on coming let me know so we can save you a seat.
