A while ago Herschell wrote about the new Passat. Although the car does have some new features and an attractive build, I think there are better choices on the market for the same (or a little more) money. VW has been doing very poorly in sales over the last 2 years, has faced job cuts, its Phaeton didn’t sell well at all in the US (or anywhere), etc. (I was at the Tippecanoe Mall yesterday and saw a Phaeton on display. WTF was a Phaeton doing in the Tippecanoe Mall, where the bulk of your clientele work at a factory job, and the rest go due to lack of anything else? We don’t have a Banana Republic, Sharper Image, or Apple Store, yet a Phaeton seems like a good idea? At least the $67,000 car isn’t taking up lot space, at least. 
Would you ever see a BMW 7 Series or a Land Rover in the mall? Not likely.
Personally, for the same base MSRP of the new Passat ($25k), I would rather have either an Audi A4 or, for a little more, a BMW 325i. Once you get up into the $30k range you have a lot more options, but within $25-30k there’s some to choose from too.
Just my thought.
